It was proved when Mrs. W.S. Ranasinghe took over S.B.V. Nugegoda as the principal on the 23rd of Nov. 2003. She is an excellent administrator and an efficient leader appointed to S.B.V. She has proved her abilities ever since she took over.
Mrs. W.S. Ranasinghe was born on the 1st of Feb. 1953 in Walpola ,Matara. She gained her primary education at Kamburugamuwa Vidyalaya, Matara, and entered Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Matara, for her secondary and tertiary education. The year 1970 is a landmark in her life, when she was eligible to enter university and brought glory to her school by obtaining the best results for the school.
From 1970 to 1974, she read for her Degree at the Vidyodaya University; presently the Sri Jayawardenapura University and was awarded an Honours Degree in Economics. Further, she read for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education at the Colombo University in 1986 / 87. She obtained a Merit pass at the Grade-1 A / B one year Principal’s Course at the N.I.E. in 1993, conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 2003, she underwent further training as a principal at the Open University in Malaysia.
She started her career as a Commerce Graduate Teacher at Tholangamuwa Central College, in Kegalle, in 1976. From 1984 to 1992, she taught Accounting at Nalanda College Colombo and became the Deputy Principal for the first time in 1993 at Visaka Vidyalaya, Bandarawela. She passed the Grade -1 Principal Service exam on 1.6.1991 and then was appointed to Christ Church Girls School, Baddegama, as the Principal. Her service there was immeasurable. She was the pioneer who fulfilled all the physical requirements of the school. From 1996 to 2002 she held the post of principal at Rippen Balika Vidyalaya, Galle, where once again she proved her capabilities. She then, was handed over the responsibility of uplifting the standard of St. Paul’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, where she served from2002 to 2003 as Principal. During her short tenure there, she rendered her services to the utmost. However, on the 23rd of November 2003, she was appoint to S.B.V Nugegoda, where she still caters to the school with utmost dedication and commitment .
Although it is a short period since she was appointed to S.B.V. she was able to develop the standard of the school immensely. In 2007, she was able to amalgamate D.D. Jayasinghe Primary school with Samudra B.V. Two fully completed Computer Labs, Resource Rooms for different subject such as English, Dancing, etc. were provided for the benefit of the children. She was capable of initiating the English Medium Science and Maths Advanced Level classes and complete the school with an excellent tutorial staff. She was able to up-lift the standard of S.B.V. as one of the popular schools in the Sri Jayawardenapura Educational Zone and maintains discipline by creating a high standard of Buddhist environment. The results of O/L’s and A/L’s have improved immensely since she took over this school. The grade– 5 Scholarship Pass Mark has risen from 154 to 164 by the year 2008. She also intends to build a school hostel and has already implemented to raise funds.
She also renders her knowledge and experience to uplift the standard of education as a resource personnel. From 1996 to 2004 she rendered her services to train the Principals in the Southern Province. Presently she conducts training sessions to principals of the Western Province as a resource personnel at the request of the Western Provincial Education Office. As an experienced principal, her commitment and determination to uplift the standard of the school should be highly appreciated.
